. This is one fork tube with the cartridge assembly removed. A couple of notes on disassembling these forks. Loosen the large fork cap before loosening the lower steering stem clamp bolt. The socket head bolt that holds the assembly into the lower fork leg is very tight and locktited in. Use a high quality allen wrench to remove it or you will destroy the bolt head. The valve in question is in the lower end of the cartridge where the socket bolt goes.

Take your thumb and press the assembly into the tube. Then remove the retaining clip that holds the valve in the tube. |
Next screw the socket bolt into the valve and carefully remove the valve from the cartridge. Wiggle it around until it comes out taking care not to damage the o-rings incase you want to re-install it.

The VTR does not have a bypass hole or adjustable compression dampening so you have to drill a bypass hole in the valve body. Be sure to clean the valve completely after drilling the hole to keep the drillings out of the valving. |
